“This is not a racist attack,” Christodoulides told Tatar about the attack on a Turkish Cypriot woman

Christodoulides contacted Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar last night and discussed the unacceptable incident of the attack on a 25-year-old Turkish Cypriot woman in Ayia Napa by two Greek Cypriots.

After condemning the incident, Christodoulides explained to the Turkish Cypriot leader that the Greek Cypriots involved were arrested and placed under 4-day detention and will be brought to justice.

He also explained that the incident does not appear to be an incident of racist attack but of unacceptable and condemnable delinquent behavior.

The 25-year-old was contacted by Tatar

The 25-year-old Turkish Cypriot woman who was attacked in Ayia Napa was contacted by Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar.

In a written statement, Ersin Tatar said that “the presidency will follow up on the matter” and noted that he had given instructions to the bi-communal Technical Committee on Crime in order to monitor the heinous attack on the young woman and all its aspects. It will continue, as it underlines, to monitor the event. “Such incidents that harm the peaceful environment on the island are unacceptable,” it said.

    In custody

The Famagusta District Court issued on Sunday, June 4, a detention order for four days against two people aged 22 and 30 to facilitate police investigations into a case of assault and grievous bodily harm against a 25-year-old Turkish Cypriot woman.

The victim of the attack, in a post on her personal Facebook account, claims that she was “crudely flirted” by one of the two arrested. When she did not respond and chatted with her friends in Turkish, the arrested man punched her and threw her under a wall in which she was sitting. She also claims that she fainted due to the blow and fall.
