Varosha will slowly open for resettlement and this needs time, Ersin Tatar said, saying that at that point it needs intense preparation and he considers it beneficial to intensify this work done in cooperation with the “government”.

Speaking on a show of “Bayrak” last night on the occasion of one year in the position of “president” of the TRNC, Tatar said that in the one year that has opened part of Varosha, more than 250,000 people visited it. The “investments” made there, he said, have turned the area into another Varosha.

It should be noted that in the TRNC it was announced by the “security forces” that from November1st the hours that the area of Varosha that has opened, will change. Visiting hours will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., instead of 8 p.m. which is now.

Mr. Tatar, speaking about the Cyprus issue in the same TV show. reiterated the statement that the Greek Cypriot side aims to eliminate the TRNC – as mentioned in the TRNC, and this – he continued – confirmed in the meeting with the UNSG. “We say two states. There is a northern Cyprus that lives with the EU. There can be two states within the EU.”

Tatar also mentioned that Turkey and the Turkish government support his views and now in Cyprus a new period has begun and such a policy gives hope for the future.

On the Cyprus issue, he continued, the attitude of the EU and the US is well known. He noted that if negotiations are started, it should first be considered whether or not there is common ground. It can be discussed, he added, that a UN resolution is needed to accept sovereign equality.

Ersin Tatar said he never said that the TRNC would be recognized, arguing that in Cyprus there is no other formula than that of the two states that will live side by side of a tomb here there are two separate peoples with different languages, religion, culture, and history.
