Ertuğruloğlu: “We do not need vaccines from Greek Cypriots”

Stating that the vaccines sent by the EU through Southern Cyprus do not comply with the “policies of the two sovereign states based on the equality of the two sovereign states” and did not look favorably upon the vaccines sent,

TRNC Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu said, “Vaccines are a humanitarian issue, but as long as our homeland sends us vaccines, we do not need the vaccines from the Greek Cypriots. “.

TRNC Minister of Foreign Affairs Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu made a statement as a guest on the “Güçlü Özgan and Barış Mutlu and Headlines” program on CRI Türk FM broadcasting in Istanbul.

First, Minister Ertuğruloğlu, who was asked about his statements saying “the EU is against sitting on the table” at the 5 + UN unofficial meeting expected to take place in Geneva on 27-29 April, said “The EU continues to be perceived as if it is a ‘neutral’ organization. I do not agree with this; The EU is one party. “An organization that makes the so-called Republic of Cyprus a member of the Greek state, a state that does not meet the Copenhagen criteria such as” zero problems with neighbors “, cannot be perceived as a neutral organization .”

“THE TURKISH SIDE DOESN’T PERMIT THE EU TO SEEN ON THE TABLE IN GENEVA”

“The 5 + UN meeting is the request of the Turkish side. Who are these 5 made up of? Two separate parties on the island, three guarantor countries and the UN. Someone should explain the reason why the EU has a place at such a table.

There can be no logical justification for this. The EU is against us. Ignoring an unresolved Cyprus problem, it is out of the question for us to think that the organization that made the Republic of Cyprus a member of the EU as if it were the legal representative of the whole island has a neutral status for us.

We reported that we do not approve of them sitting at this table. The EU will of course be in Geneva, they can have bilateral meetings with the parties at the table, but the Turkish side will not allow the EU to sit at the table.

    ‘CONFEDERATION’ FROM ERTUĞRULOĞLU’S WINDOW

Ertuğruloğlu, who was asked to explain the ‘confederation’ model he defended regarding the solution of the Cyprus problem, continued his statement as follows:

“Confederation is an alliance established by sovereign states; Federation, on the other hand, is a non-sovereign partnership established by societies.

The UN has wasted 52 years of federation negotiations.

The Federation has become the UN parameters.

We say; Let’s remember the 1960 Republic. Was there political equality? There was. It was a bi-communal, not bi-zonal, functional federation.

Turks had active participation in the decision-making mechanism. The vice president had veto power.

Remembering what happened to such an order and what happened to the Turkish Cypriots since December 1963, it is still not an acceptable approach for us to call a federation. “

“A POSSIBLE NEW PARTNERSHIP SHOULD BE BASED ON FOUNDATIONS THAN THE REPUBLIC OF 1960”

Minister Ertuğruloğlu said, “ If a new partnership is to be established between the two former partners – not necessarily – it should be built on more solid foundations than the 1960 partnership structure, so that what happened to the Republic of 1960 would not happen.

We know that the Greeks’ love for Enosis continues. “The possible new system should be built on more solid foundations .”

“IF THERE WILL BE POLITICAL EQUALITY, THE SOVEREIGN EQUALITY MUST BE PLACED ON THE TABLE.”

Stating that in the event that the possible ‘confederal’ partnership is broken, the situation where the Turkish Cypriots have fallen in the international sense since 1963, Ertuğruloğlu said, “ If there is to be political equality, it must be placed on the grounds of sovereign equality”.

“THE GRAND STATE, WE ARE THE COMMUNITY”

Stating that there is a chance of success if the negotiations are conducted between equals, Ertuğruloğlu said, “ Despite breaking the partnership, the Greek Cypriots who are recognized became the state, and the society that is trying to be crushed under embargoes is the society.

The Greek state, we are the society. This is a negotiation on the basis of inequality. If negotiations are to have any meaning, it is between equals. This is called confederation “he said.

THE VACCINATION ISSUE… “WE ARE ONE OF THE COUNTRIES THAT ARE IN THE PROCESS OF IMMUNIZATION OF THE POPULATION”

When asked about the fight against pandemic and vaccination, Minister Ertuğruloğlu said, “The motherland sends us our vaccines. We are one of the countries that are in the process of vaccination as much of the population should be. Are we finished? No. We need more vaccines. Motherland has already sent us the vaccines we need, and it will continue to send, we have no doubt ”.

    VACCINES SENT FROM EU …

Referring to the vaccines sent from the EU for the Turkish Cypriot community in addition to these statements, Ertuğruloğlu said, “ Some of us state that they do not see it this way but I do not agree with it; “I would like to clearly say that I disagree with the claim that ” the EU gives us direct vaccination aid through a separate channel . “

“THE VACCINES SENT BY THE EU IN SOME AMOUNT OF VACCINES TO THE TURKISH CYPRUS”

Stating that the vaccines sent by the EU through Southern Cyprus are “in small amounts, in amounts that make a mockery of the Turkish Cypriots “, Ertuğruloğlu continued as follows:

“If you ask about the small amount of vaccines that (EU) sent here, mocking us, they will say, ‘We managed some of the vaccines they sent to the so-called Republic of Cyprus, their members, to the Turkish community’. While we advocate a policy on the basis of the equality of two separate, two sovereign states, I think we should not be too keen on the EU treating us. “

“WE DO NOT NEED THE VACCINES THAT COME FROM THE GREEK”

Minister Ertuğruloğlu said, “ Vaccines are a humanitarian issue, but as long as our motherland sends us vaccines, we do not need the vaccines that will come from the Greek side. I say this on purpose, knowing that there are some who don’t think like me. I am not a warm welcome to the vaccines sent by the EU from the South. “The amounts they send are not even the amounts to be talked about .”
