Bezos attends vigil for Khashoggi in Istanbul

Amazon.com Inc. founder and Washington Post owner Jeff Bezos on Wednesday attended a vigil for slain journalist Jamal Khashoggi that took place in front of Saudi Arabia’s consulate in Istanbul, the Associated Press reported.

Khashoggi, a vocal critic of the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and a columnist at the Washington Post, was killed last year on Oct. 2 inside the consulate by a Saudi squad linked to the government.

The memorial on the first anniversary of Khashoggi’s murder started after 1:14 p.m. local time when Khashoggi entered into the consulate a year ago to get papers required to marry his Turkish fiancée Hatice Cengiz, who waited for him outside.

Bezos in his speech addressed Cengiz. “No one should ever have to endure what you did,” he said. “You need to know that you are in our hearts. We are here and you are not alone.”
