    Saturday’s International Day of Non-Violence marks the birthday of Indian leader Mahatma Gandhi, who remained committed to the principle of non-violence, even in the most difficult circumstances.

    Mahatma Gandhi was born on this in 1869. Gandhi was one of the most important figures of the 20th century. It is impossible to discuss the subject of tolerance today without referring to the thought and action of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (1869-1948), known to the world as Mahatma (“great soul”).
    Gandhi was the foremost leader of the Indian independence movement employing non-violent disobedience. His thoughts and teachings are a source of inspiration for those who believe that the path to a better world is Peace. Gandhi’s birthday, 2 October, is commemorated worldwide as the International Day of Non-violence.
