Prime Minister Tatar stated that he has asked Dr Ali Pilli, to start discussions with South Cyprus with a view to open the Checkpoints as soon as possible, taking into account the necessary health conditions.
“I hope that the understanding of cooperation required in this regard, which concerns both sides, is displayed, health is prioritized and border crossings are opened as soon as possible.”
Tatar said in his statement:
“With the start of the opening or, in other words, the new normalization process, there has been an increase in the articles about how and when the border gates will be opened in both the Greek press and our media. Immigration, customs and security regulations continue at the Checkpoints. The reason for the cessation of going and coming is completely the problem of pandemic. Therefore, in our opinion, the ball is completely in our healthcare providers in opening the Check points. The number of cases is zero with us, but due to the continuity of the risk, the measures continue. In the Greek part, the number of daily cases has decreased to one in recent days, but various measures are being carried out there as well. ”
Stating that they want the Ministry of Health to make the necessary contacts first, Prime Minister Ersin Tatar stated that, as the government, they were ready to put the Checkpoints into operation with their approval.

“We have evaluated the statements coming from the Greek side that the data will be shared with us and evaluations will be made positively.
As the government, we are ready for the Ministries of Health to work together immediately with the Greek Cypriot Administration for transitions to and from Southern Cyprus to the North.
Currently, our Health Minister Dr. Ali Pilli, I have given a duty to make contacts in this direction. I asked Mr. Pilli to make attempts to negotiate with the other party to open the border gates as soon as possible, taking into account the necessary health conditions. I hope that the understanding of cooperation required on this issue, which concerns both sides, is displayed, health is prioritized and border crossings are opened as soon as possible. ”
