South Cyprus: Five test positive to Covid-19, total now 883

Five people have tested positive for Coronavirus after 2062 diagnostic tests the Health Ministry said on Wednesday.

This brings the total number to 883 (including 10 in the British Bases).

Dr. Marios Loizou said that the team of experts is “particularly happy” with the small number of new cases and the continuous reduction in the number of patients in ICUs.

“The improvement of the weather combined with the developments in the drug and vaccines sector allow for additional optimism. The opening of society and the relaunch of economic activity pleases us, but we should not forget that human life remains our foremost priority. Our ability to move on to the next phase depends on the strict adherence to the announced measures,” Loizou said.

    The results are:

    • Two through tracing of the contacts of positive cases  (97 tests today)
    • None from public hospital labs (241 tests today)
    • None from repatriations (651 tests today)
    • Three from private initiative (1009 tests today)
    • None from 2,000 tests of workers in the food and drink sector and care homes (64 tests today)

At 3 pm on Wednesday, there were 13 patients at Famagusta Hospital, one of them in the increased care unit. All are in stable condition. One patient was discharged.

There are four intubated patients in ICUs, three at Nicosia Hospital and one at Limassol Hospital. One patient is in Nicosia Hospital ICU, but is not intubated. Their condition is described as critical but stable.

In addition, there are five confirmed Covid-19 cases in hospital wards other than Famagusta Hospital.
