Russia slams reports suggesting possible status agreement of Crimea-north Cyprus

A united Cyprus should also have a single sovereignty, single citizenship and single international identity, she added.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has slammed media reports suggesting that Moscow and Ankara could agree on the status of Crimea if Russia recognized the TRNC (North Cyprus).

Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova who described Thursday’s reports as “fabrications” also reaffirmed Russia’s “unchanged” and “well-known” support for a reunited Cyprus under a bi-zonal, bi-communal federal system, according to TASS.

A united Cyprus should also have a single sovereignty, single citizenship and single international identity, she added.

“We support efforts made by the UN Secretary-General, in the context of his mission of Good Offices, to resume the inter-communal talks,” she also said.

The spokeswoman then sent the message that Russia’s regions will never be a bargaining chip with other countries.
