    Greek Foreign Ministry condemns the burning of the Turkish flag

    The Greek Foreign Ministry condemned the burning of the Turkish flag during the demonstrations held in Athens.

    In a written statement from the Ministry said

    “Greece condemns in the most explicit manner any action that desecrates the national symbol of any country, in this case of Turkey,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

    “Actions of this sort are contrary to the culture and the customs of the Greek people,” it said.

    In Athens yesterday, hundreds of people gathered in the parliament square to protest the so-called “Pontus Greek Genocide” by burning the Turkish flag.

    Speaking on the subject, Hami Aksoy, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reminded everyone that Atatürk did not desecrate the Greek flag laid out in front of him after İzmir’s liberation from the occupation, “No one can desecrate our glorious flag!” .
