Four bathers die in separate incidents

Three people lost their lives while swimming on Sunday, just two days after another female tourist had drowned at a local beach.

According to reports, an 80-year-old tourist from Austria experienced a blackout while swimming in Ayia Napa on Sunday. The incident took place at Melissi beach around noon, while a post mortem has been scheduled for Monday.

Another elderly male tourist, a 67-year-old Russian national, was also spotted flowing unconscious in the water in Protaras on Sunday afternoon.

Lifeguards in the area attempted to revive the Russian tourist but to no avail, while he was taken to the Emergency Room where doctors on duty pronounced him dead on arrival.

A few miles north, Turkish Cypriot media also reported the death of Greek Cypriot man who got into trouble while swimming.

The man, aged 44, reportedly went for a swim at Bedis beach in Agios Sergios/Yeni Bogazici when he got into difficulty around 1:15pm.

Reports said there was water turbulence in the area, while Turkish Cypriot police were said to be carrying on an investigation into the incident.

Another tourist, a 67-year-old woman from Switzerland, also lost her life at a Cypriot beach on Friday, when she was spotted floating unconscious in the water in Protaras, in the morning around 11 am.
