British Airways flights to Cyprus on hold

British Airways flights to Cyprus are said to be on hold due to one of the airline’s biggest strikes, with more action expected in the future if no deal is reached.

According to British media, more than 1500 flights have been canceled as the airline and the British Airline Pilots Association (BALPA) are clashing after the union rejected a pay raise proposal.

A possible further strike could also take place on September 27 if a deal is not reached prior to that date

Passengers reportedly have been notified two weeks ago about the situation, after pilots declined an offer of 11.5 percent pay increase. The failed measure would have taken pilot pay packages to around £200,000 a year, according to media sources.

Three daily flights between Heathrow and Larnaca and another flight from Gatwick to Paphos are said to be affected by the strike, which began on Monday and is scheduled to last 48 hours.

A possible further strike could also take place on September 27 if a deal is not reached prior to that date, according to media sources.
