The body of a woman found near Ercan airport has been formally identified as that of Vietnamese national Dam Thi Hop (40). She was reported a missing about 18 months ago.

Since her body was recovered in January 2019, the police had been waiting for confirmation of her identity. A sample of her mother’s DNA was found to be a 99% match.

The murdered woman who was a domestic worker went missing on October 15, 2017. She left her employer’s house in Nicosia and never returned.

There was speculation in the Turkish Cypriot press that she may have been another victim of Greek Cypriot serial killer Nicos Metaxas, however, co-chair of the bi-communal committee on crime Hakki Onen said that Metaxas may not be involved in the murder of Hop, as the way in which the 40-year-old was murdered does not appear to match the method used by Metaxas on his victims. Ms. Hop’s body showed evidence of multiple stab wounds, while the Metaxas victims had been strangled.
