Thunder & Lightning leaves 28 villages in the North without power

A Lightning strike struck an electricity substation in Geçitkale (Lefkonoiko) has left 28 villages in the North without power, reported on Thursday.

“Electricity authority” chief Tulug Kalyoncu said that he cannot say when supply will be restored as the damage inflicted to the substation is “very serious.”

According to Kalyoncu, 25 of the affected villages are in Magosa (Famagusta) and three in Iskele (Trikomo).

Geçitkale (Lefkonoiko) “mayor” Hasan Oztas said that the current transformer in the substation has “blown up” and that direct response by the “officials” limited the scale of the damage.
