Presidency says Kofi Annan linked his name to the problem of occupied Cyprus

Despite the fact that his efforts to solve the Cyprus issue and the plan that had his name  had not been successful, he has linked his name to the problem of occupied Cyprus, a statement by the Presidency of the Republic says on the death of former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan.

Expressing sorrow for his passing and condolences to his relatives, it is stated that Kofi Annan was honored together with the UN with the Nobel Peace Prize in 2001, and was the first UNSG coming from the UN`s administrative structure, leaving great work behind him in particular in combating poverty in Africa and AIDS.

It is noted that “despite the fact that the efforts he made to reach a solution of the Cyprus issue and the plan that had his name had not been crowned with success, he has linked his name to the problem of occupied Cyprus”.
