Poacher caught with illegal trapping equipment – fined 7,000 euros


Police on Sunday imposed an out-of-court fine of 7,000 euros on a 49-year-old man after bird-trapping materials were found on his property in the Famagusta area, they said. According a a police bulletin, at around 4am on Sunday a patrol in an orchard, anti-poaching officers came across four nets and a loudspeaker through which birdsounds are played.


With the consent of the 49-year-old, officers subsequently searched a warehouse inside the enclosure where they found the device that mimics bird song.

Following an agreement with the Game Fund police issued the on-the-spot fine for 7,000 euros and seized the poaching materials.
