Turkey’s first drilling vessel ‘Fatih’ sailed to the Mediterranean to start the country’s first deep-sea drilling operations. Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Dönmez stated that for the first time, Turkey is conducting deep sea drilling operation with its own vessel. Dönmez gave a speech at the ceremony held for the first drilling. Dönmez said that Turkey has always supported stability, peace and prosperity in the Eastern Mediterranean, and has taken steps within the framework of maritime law.
“Turkey will always protect the rights of the Turkish Cypriots in accordance with international maritime law in respect of unilateral and illegal steps. Pointing out that naval forces and coast guard are accompanying ‘Fatih’, Dönmez said that there is not any security risk but in a situation of risk, Turkey will do the necessary.
