Ersan Saner withdraws from the nomination

Therefore, I would like to point out that I have withdrawn from the party's presidential candidacy as of this moment in order to avoid further damage to my family, my home UBP.

Prime Minister Ersan Saner withdrew from the weekend’s congress, blaming Faiz Sucuoglu

The Leader of the National Unity Party, Prime Minister Ersan Saner, has withdrawn from the nomination of the Leader of the National Unity Party.

In his statement to the public and UBP people, Saner noted:

“Dear Turkish Cypriot people, dear National Unity Party…

I feel the need to make a comprehensive statement following the events that have been preoccupying the public for some time and which have been referred to the judiciary.

while I am striving as Prime Minister to overcome the country’s problems in the epidemic conditions we are experiencing, I have undoubtedly become the candidate with the best chance of winning for UBP Presidency.

It is my duty, my debt, to win this legal battle against those who think that they will come to a place with intrigue in politics and those who think that they will gain power in the country through blackmail.

Some things must be known, talked about so that the right decisions are made for the country, for our Party, and that no one dares to violate the privacy of the other’s private life for the sake of their political goals and ambitions again.

The outcome of this case will be a serious lesson for those who want to get somewhere with intrigue not only within the National Unity Party, but also in the politics of the country.

In all the statements given to the police, it seems that Faiz Sucuoglu was involved from start to finish.

He has so far demonstrated how involved he is and what he intends to do by not giving me or any official of our Party any information that prevents it from being used against me.

When Faiz Sucuoglu faced the offer to give him a video to be used against me, a crime was being committed, and as an MP he should have reported it to the police and prevented the crime from being committed.

Faiz Sucuoglu cannot exonerate himself by saying “I don’t know, I’m being set up.” I am sure that Faiz Sucuoglu will surely be held accountable before justice.

I’m ready to fight a viable legal battle against him.

I have to do this as a father, a wife, someone who advocates for an honest political premium in the country. I consider this struggle a debt to UBP and to our people.

I don’t need a position to continue the legal battle. I have full faith in all our institutions that provide justice, especially our police department. Like any of our citizens, there is no port to seek refuge and trust in other than justice. Therefore, I have decided to fight my legal battle alone.

The legal fight for the perception of “clean and fair politics for UBP and our country” is now my priority, which has turned into a personal struggle for me.

Therefore, I would like to point out that I have withdrawn from the party’s presidential candidacy as of this moment in order to avoid further damage to my family, my home UBP.

There is strong pressure at the grassroots to ‘keep the nomination going’. He knows this and he asks everyone to understand me and I thank them with heartfelt feelings for their support…

From this moment on, as a member of the UBP and its leader, I will do my best to cleanse our party of lies, intrigue, and those who see the welfare of the people after their own political economy.

And from this point on, I will never compromise on justice and integrity. I will transparently share every stage of the legal battle with the public and my party members.

At this stage, I invite all UBP people to take a stand against conspirators and plotters at our 22nd Ordinary Congress, and offer my deepest respects and love.”
