Energy resources in the Eastern Mediterranean should turn into a peace project

The Minister of Economy and Energy Özdil Nami stated that the energy resources in the Eastern Mediterranean should turn into a peace project and added: “If this principle is adopted, cooperation which embraces all sides can be established so our energy resources will become a source of prosperity for the region”.

Minister Nami gave a speech at the opening of the 10th. Energy Efficiency Forum and Exhibition where he attended as the guest of the Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Fatih Dönmez.

In his speech, Nami said “We have made all kind of efforts and showed the will for the solution of the Cyprus problem which will be useful not only in Cyprus but in the Eastern Mediterranean as well. Although there was a positive approach by the Turkish Cypriots and the guarantor country Turkey, the process for a solution failed due to the Greek Cypriot Leader leaving the negotiation table. The Turkish Cypriots should not be punished anymore and unfair and inhuman isolations imposed on the Turkish Cypriots should be ended. Our stance is clear. The energy resources in the Eastern Mediterranean should turn into a peace project. If this principle is adopted, cooperation which embraces all sides can be established so our energy resources will become a source of prosperity for the region”.
