Alparslan is the name to be given to the 4th drilling rig purchased by Turkey reveals the Turkish pro-government newspaper Yeni Safak titled “The best drilling rig in the world will be called Alparslan” which writes that it will be delivered in the first quarter of 2022.
Albarslan was the second-succeeding Sultan of the Great Seljuk Empire who greatly expanded his empire and power with great victories over his opponents. With manzikert’s victory over the Byzantine Empire in 1071 he established his dominance in the East. His victories gave him the title of “Alp Arslan” which translates as “heroic lion”.
According to Yeni Safak, the state-of-the-art seventh-generation ship is capable of “drilling” up to 12,200 meters. The ship, which has a crew of 200 people, can stay stable even in a wave 7.3 meters high. It has a length of 238 meters, a width of 41.7 meters and a depth of 18.9 meters. The ship’s two towers 65 meters high have a lifting capacity of 1,750 tons.
Turkey has included the 4th drilling ship in its fleet after Fatih, Yavuz and Kanuni.
Turkey’s President Tayyip Erdogan, at the AK Party meeting the day before, said that “we added our fourth ship to the drilling fleet. Moreover, this ship, unlike the others, is the seventh generation, the most modern, equipped with the latest technology and is a brand new ship that we will use for the first time.”
