Anastasiadis reply to Akıncı's message on the anniversary of the establishment of the TRNC 12

Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Anastasiades responded to President Mustafa Akıncı’s message published today in BRT on the occasion of the founding anniversary of the TRNC.

In the statement  Anastasiadis said that the Greek Cypriot side “has shown its sincere political will by making historical consensus for the establishment of the legitimate rights of both communities for the last 45 years“, Securing the legitimate rights of the Turkish Cypriot community does not mean that the conditions as a privilege that a society will rule on the other

The statement added: By accepting political equality, we showed that we respect the concerns of the Turkish Cypriot community. However, insisting on claims that would create concessions that are not found in any other UN or EU member state constitution will bring to the agenda a solution that constitutes a democratic paradox that cannot operate and is not sustainable, not to guarantee legitimate rights. ”

In his statement, he expressed political will and determination to ensure that the meeting of the Greek Cypriot President Nikos Anastasiades with the UN Secretary-General in Berlin will be positive in terms of the adoption of mutually agreed Reference Conditions in his meeting with President Akıncı on 9 August 2019. Commenting on President Akıncı’s remarks on energy issues, he said, “The Republic of Cyprus and sovereign rights are not the subjects of negotiation”.
