Karsiyaka Beach on Sunday 27th October was the setting for the beginning of new life for Astrid the caretta caretta turtle.

For four years she has been cared for following her being washed up on the shores of northern Cyprus having been seriously harmed.
It has taken much loving care from Near East University and Taskent Nature Park and Cyprus Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre to get her to the point of being able to return to the ocean which was her home.
The beach was full of human well-wishers who were thrilled to see Astrid’s enthusiasm to return ‘home’ as she rushed over the sand to enter the warm waters of the Mediterranean and swim off to find the family she left.
Although Astrid has no voice of her own, was she able, it is certain she would be full of thanks to the humans who lovingly cared for her and express her appreciation for Near East University and Taskent Nature Park for their caring for nature and the marine life of the beautiful island of Cyprus.”
